Kincardine Recognized as Youth Friendly

Kincardine is one of Ontario's newest Youth Friendly Communities. Members of the Kincardine Youth Waves accepted the award from Parliamentary Assistant Sophie Kiwala, MPP for Kingston and the Islands, at the Parks and Recreation Ontario Educational Forum at Blue Mountain Resort.

Kincardine was among recipients recognized for their outstanding commitment to providing youth with opportunities to play, to participate in and contribute to their communities.

Established in 2005, the Play Works Youth Friendly Community Recognition Program acknowledges the work by communities across Ontario to ensure that youth (ages 13-19) have continuous access to opportunities ranging from arts to recreation to civic leadership. The selection process requires communities to meet specific youth-friendly criteria with different levels or recognition - Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum - depending on the number of measures they meet. Kincardine was recognized with a Bronze level for meeting ten of sixteen criteria.

Youth Waves is a community coalition committed to ensuring all local youth are healthy, engaged and contributing members of our community. To learn more about Youth Waves contact kincardineyouthwaves@gmail.com or like us on Facebook.

Play Works is a group of organizers that have joined forces to bring back the power of play to Ontario's young people. To learn more about Play Works, the Youth Friendly Community Recognition Program, please visit www.playworkspartnership.ca.
