Perth District Health Unit
Perth District Health Unit Celebrates 50th Anniversary in 2016!
In the summer of 1966, the Perth County Health Unit (now the Perth District Health Unit) was established as an official public health unit in Ontario. Throughout 2016, the Health Unit will be honouring its golden anniversary with events for the public, staff, partners and stakeholders. “We are very proud of the achievements of our public health unit over the past 50 years,” says Dr. Miriam, Klassen, Medical Officer of Health. “We look forward to celebrating with our residents and our staff.”
50th Anniversary Celebration: Sunday, June 26, 2-4pm at PDHU (West Gore)
The Health Unit is hosting a community event on Sunday, June 26, from 2-4pm, in Stratford at the main building (653 West Gore Street). The event is to showcase to the community, families, stakeholders, partners, and governing agencies the work of public health in Perth County. The celebration will include food, live music, a history exhibit, slideshow presentation, activities for all ages, and keynotes from dignitaries and past leaders. Everyone is invited to attend.
50th Anniversary Logo
The Health Unit has designed a 50th anniversary logo that it will be using on its website and on communication materials throughout the year.
History Exhibit
A history exhibit of “50 Years of Public Health in Perth County” is being created with the help of a public history student from the University of Waterloo. The exhibit will highlight local achievements in public health and include a display (at the anniversary celebration), as well as a poster series of a historical timeline of achievements. A digital version of the timeline will also be posted on our website.
“With our celebrations this year, we aim to raise awareness about public health programs and services, and how public health contributes to the creation of a healthy community,” says Dr. Klassen.
