Parachute
Celebrating Safe Kids Week
Celebrating its 20th anniversary, Parachute Safe Kids Week is an annual campaign designed to raise awareness about the frequency and severity of preventable childhood injuries, which are the leading cause of death and disability amongst Canadian children. Many Canadians are surprised to learn that preventable injuries kill more children every year than any other disease.
The good news is that our efforts are working! Since 1996, Canada has enjoyed a decreasing trend in death and hospitalizations from preventable injuries.
But, we still need your help to keep children safe! Start by taking part in Parachute Safe Kids Week, happening May 30-June 5, 2016 in communities across Canada.
Informed by research and best practices, our efforts will focus on top injury issues that affect children:
- At Home
- At Play
- On the Road
Parachute will support you with a Community Toolkit containing resources and tools to roll out a successful Safe Kids Week in your community. You can use the Community Toolkit to help you organize activities and events to keep children safe at home, on the road and at play. The toolkit will include:
- A backgrounder and evidence-based key messages
- An event and social media guide
- Resources including, Clifford Takes A Walk Books (4), 2V1 Helmet Fitting Bookmarks (50), Concussion Bookmarks (50), Parachute Tattoos (100), Pledge Cards (4), Microfiber Cloths (10) and 3-Pack Crayons (25)
These toolkits are now available to order for $35/kit plus $10 shipping and handling and will be mailed out starting the week of April 25, 2016.
Parachute will be developing a national media release and social media campaign using the hashtag #SafeKids20, as well as #SafeKidsWeek, in support of activities happening in communities across the country.
We encourage you to get involved! Stay tuned for more information, available at parchutecanada.org/safekidsweek. If you have any questions, please contact Julie Taylor, Program Coordinator jtaylor@parachutecanada.org or 647-776-5120. And remember to follow #SafeKids20 on Twitter and Facebook.
