Walkability Survey

We need your input to make it easier to walk around St Thomas! Elgin St Thomas Public Health, along with the City of St Thomas, local developers Doug Tarry Homes and Hayhoe Homes, consultants from MMM Group, have created a survey to gather input about their walking experiences, as well as any suggestions or comments regarding the topic. The survey and project information is available on www.activeelgin.ca.

This push to improve the quality of walking in St Thomas stems from the 5 year Creating Connections Project, which received $1 million from the Public Health Agency of Canada. This grant was matched by local developers, providing just under $2 million to improve the walking conditions within the City. "Improving the walkability of St Thomas is crucial, as it is an important factor in encouraging residents to walk more often for fitness, fun, and everyday trips to school, shop and visit friends" says Erica Arnett, Manager of Strategic Initiatives at Elgin St Thomas Public Health.

In order to make St Thomas more walkable, community input and support becomes a necessity when prioritizing the improvements that are to be made. The survey is short, just 11 questions. Encourage family and friends to complete the survey and have a say about the changes in our community.

If having a say about the community around you isn't enough of a reward, every person that completes the survey will be entered into a draw for the chance to win a $200 Fitbit prize pack. The questionnaire is open from now until June 30th, 2016, and the draw will take place on July 8th, 2016. Don't just stop at the survey; become more involved by joining our local workshops and frequently check www.activeelgin.ca for more updates and opportunities.
