South East Grey Community Health Centre
New Recreation & Leisure Guide for South East Grey County Released

The South East Grey Community Health Centre and Health Kids Community Challenge have launched a pilot program to create and distribute a local recreation guide. The guide includes activities in Southgate, Grey Highlands, and Chatsworth that promote physical activity. There is also information on subsidies so no child or family is excluded from participating due to the cost of registration, equipment, transportation, or other barriers.

"Residents of the three municipalities were mailed the Recreation & Leisure Guide this week, so please check your mailbox!" says Crystal Ferguson, health promoter. "We are very excited about the new guide. We get inquiries daily at the Community Health Centre about what physical activity programs are available for families and we hope this will make it easier for families to get involved in the great programs available locally!"

South East Grey communities are taking part in the Healthy Kids Community Challenge to make it easier for children and their families to be physically active and eat healthy. We asked families and community organizations about what is needed to improve physical activity. A common request was for better communication of all the great programs that are available.

"We are pleased with our first Recreation Guide under our SEG Healthy Kids Community Challenge! This guide provides information on where and how all kids, and their families, can participate in recreation activities within their communities." - Bob Pringle, Mayor, Township of Chatsworth

To make a 2017 edition available, we will be looking for sponsors or advertisers. Please contact South East Grey Community Health Centre staff at 519-986-2222 ext 6358 or email info@segchc.ca for more information. Please also be sure to contact the Community Health Centre if you have a program to add to the guide.

The Municipality of Grey Highlands, Township of Southgate, and Township of Chatsworth are working with local schools, Public Health, the South East Grey Community Health Centre, other community groups, private businesses, parents, and youth to implement the Healthy Kids Community Challenge.
