McHappy Day Supporting Neonatal Intensive Care at Owen Sound Regional Hospital
On Wednesday, May 4th, McDonald's Restaurants in Owen Sound, Meaford and Port Elgin will raise funds for new neonatal incubators needed in the Intensive Care Nursery at the Owen Sound Regional Hospital.
$1 from each Big Mac, Happy Meal or any size hot beverage will support the Hospital.
"We are delighted to be supporting the critical work of the Hospital, to help ensure babies get the best possible start in life," said Steven Sgro, owner and operator of the McDonald's Restaurants.
The Intensive Care Nursery is the only facility of its type in Grey and Bruce. 743 babies were born at the hospital in 2015 to parents from throughout the region, with 192 newborns requiring specialized care in the Nursery.
Incubators provide a controlled environment with warm, humidified air. They protect babies against light, noise, infection and other complications as their tiny bodies grow.
The new incubators replace aging equipment. State of the art technology means better care for babies with heat, light and sound carefully controlled. New incubators feature built in scales and high quality mattresses so babies are as comfortable as possible.
Three new incubators will cost about $25,000 each.
"We are so pleased to receive support from McHappy Day," said Neil McCutcheon, Chairman of the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation. "Funds raised are critical to helping keep the Hospital equipped to help our youngest patients."
