Clinton & Seaforth Foundations Participating in 15th Annual Health Care Heroes Radiothon

On Thursday, May 12, 2016 the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation and Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation along with six other local hospital foundations and CKNX AM920 will put their resources together and come together to hose a unique all day fundraiser.

The 15th annual CKNX Health Care Heroes Radiothon will be broadcast in its entirety on CKNX AM920 and intermittently on 101.7 The One and Classic Rock 94.5.Listeners across Midwestern Ontario will be asked to phone in and make a donation.

"The community support our hospitals receive as a result of this Radiothon is incredible," says Andrew Williams, President & CEO of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA).

This year the Clinton Public Hospital Foundation has set its fundraising goal at $50,000 to refresh the Operating Room.

"Continuing to strengthen ambulatory surgical services at the Clinton site is a priority for the HPHA," says Dr. Daniel Ooi, Site Chief in Clinton. "We continue to reinvest in the Operating Room to ensure high quality safe care for the patients we serve. I'd like to thank the Clinton community for their ongoing support."

In the 2015-2016 fiscal year over 2,000 day surgeries were completed at the Clinton Public Hospital.

The Seaforth Community Hospital Foundation has also set a goal of $50,000. These funds will be used to purchase a new ultrasound machine and suction and oxygen therapy equipment.

"A high resolution ultrasound machine will be used by our Imaging Department and will help diagnose all sorts of things from fetal well-being to how blocked a vein or artery is in your leg, arm or head," says Dr. Heather Percival, Site Chief in Seaforth. "Our current ultrasound machine is being used to capacity and needs an upgrade, so the Foundation is really helping keep our technology current."

The suction and oxygen therapy equipment are part of a retrofit project in which current systems were upgraded and new equipment was added to several patient care areas, including the laboratory.

"Oxygen therapy is so important to patient care," adds Percival. "In an emergency situation it is the first thing we reach for and it is essential to be able to provide this in a timely manner. Running around the hospital to retrieve a 15 to 100 pound oxygen tank was a major barrier to providing this therapy as quickly as possible."

Members of the Seaforth Foundation invite residents to join them at the Seaforth Legion between 9am and 5pm for a number of activities, including prize draws, a BBQ lunch and card and board games.

"The high quality health care we enjoy in our local hospitals is in no small part a result of this Radiothon," conculdes Willams. "To all who have and continue to strengthen our system through their donations I extend, on behalf of our entire team, heartfelt thanks."
