City releases final draft of The London Plan

Today, the City of London released the third and final draft of The London Plan to be considered by City Council next month. After 2 years of public consultation, The Plan represents London’s playbook for City building over the next 20 years.

“This plan is an opportunity of a lifetime - it will change the way we grow over next 20 years in so many ways”, said Mayor Matt Brown. “We're building a better city, not just for us - but for future generations of Londoners as well."

The Plan sets out a series of policies designed to stimulate growth and development, protect our environment and natural resources, conserve our heritage, revitalize our downtown, protect our agricultural lands, coordinate our civic infrastructure, provide for affordable housing and connect our transportation system with our land use plans.

The key directions proposed in The London Plan include:

  • Growing inward and upward
  • Shaping our city around rapid transit
  • Building a city of great places and spaces
  • Offering real and attractive mobility choices
  • Becoming one of the greenest cities in Canada
  • Creating a cosmopolitan city
  • Building strong and vibrant neighbourhoods
  • Planning a smart city
  • Regenerating our urban neighbourhoods and main streets

"The London Plan will serve as our playbook for growth and city building over the next 20 years.  We are so appreciative of all the Londoners that have participated in this process - from the general public, to the development industry, to various interest groups -  such that the plan can truly belong to everyone," said John Fleming, Managing Director Planning and City Planner.

Londoners can view and download the full plan at www.thelondonplan.ca as well as review previous versions, the public’s comments and background information on the process.

A community open house will be held on Thursday, June 2 from 6pm to 9pm at Goodwill Industries, 255 Horton St East.

The public will also have an opportunity to provide feedback at a public participation meeting at the Planning and Environment Committee meeting on June 13 at 4 pm in Council Chambers.
