PF Solutions Receives New Funding From United Way Perth-Huron

PF is thrilled to announce three year funding from United Way Perth-Huron, enabling the organization to extend programming to more individuals facing barriers to employment, while strengthening their social entreprise model to ensure sustainability for the overall program.

PF Solutions was created in 2011 as a project of United Way Perth-Huron, ans has helped over 140 local community members overcome multiple barriers to employment and move from Poverty to Possibility, on of United Way's Impact areas.

"The barriers are different for everyone", shared Susan Faber, PF Solutions Manager. "It can be a straight-forward upgrading and application of skills through work experience, to more complex social anxiety and self-confidence challenges - all of which benefit from a customized, individual approach to training." PF Solutions is administrative based and provides a supportive environment for participants to try new challenges in a safe inclusive atmosphere allowing them to "Practice First".

PF works closely with local employment centres who provide the job search support for participants. "PF is a great place to job search from", Faber continues. "You start to feel quite desperate sending resumes out from your kitchen table, whereas at PF, you come to the office each day and work with team members in a similar situation - the comradery is tremendous", Faber continued. "We aim to help at least 10 Ontario Works recipients each year. Many are lacking the confidence and knowledge that they can contribute and they quickly realize they can. Many are unsure if their family will cope without them at the home base, in this case it is a great testing ground for the participant and their family before they commit to the work force."

Sonya, a graduate from PF shared, "PF was a tremendous opportunity for me. I was sending out endless resumes and just not hearing back because of my lack of work experience. With a couple of months under my belt at PF, along with references and a resume full of accomplishments and validated skills, I moved onto a great job."

Ryan Erb, United Way Perth-Huron Executive Director further stated, "The investment in this program builds bridges, reducing barriers to employment in a customized environment. This is a true example of how United Way Perth-Huron is investing in programs that move people from Poverty to Possibility."

Thank you to our donors who help United Way make lasting differences in facilitating services for people to move from Poverty to Possibility, helping Kids to Be All They Can Be and to continue Building Strong Communities 2016-2017.
