Boil Water Advisory for Port Burwell Area Secondary Water Supply System

The Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Joyce Lock, is advising consumers of the Port Burwell Area Secondary Water Supply System following a water main break in Central Elgin, that once the water supply has been restored users should bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute prior to using it for domestic purposes, e.g. drinking, making infant formula and juice, brushing teeth, washing raw foods and making ice.

The reason for the advisory is that the Medical Officer of Health has been advised that a water main break occurred on Dexter Line at Quaker Road on June 13th, 2016 and could potential have compromised the water supply. The boil water advisory is recommended as a precaution in case the loss of pressure possibly led to contamination. All consumers located east of Dexter Line and Quaker Rd, extending to residents of Port Bruce, Port Burwell and Vienna, are being notified of this advisory.

A copy of "Guidelines for Using Water Safely During a Boil Water Advisory" is available from the Elgin St Thomas Public Health office or online.

The public is advised to continue to boil water until such time that the water sampling results prove the water to be safe for consumption.
