Pride Flag Flies over London Police Service Headquarters for the First Time
The Pride Flag will be raised for the first time above the London Police Service on Thursday, July 14, 2016 in preparation for the 2016 Pride London Festival which runs through until July 24. The Festival includes 11 days of events that highlight the LGBTQ+ communities in London and promote inclusion and awareness of sexual and gender diversity and expression.
London Police Chiefs have been walking in the parade since 2011 and this year will be no different. Chief John Pare will be joining a number of London and area law enforcement members in the parade and explains the significance of participating in the event.
"The members of the London Police Service reaffirm our commitment to supporting the LGBTQ+ community and working with you to educate and advocate for an inclusive, safe and welcoming City," says Pare.
"We truly appreciate the amazing support of our London Police Service during the Pride London Festival and throughout the year. We are very proud that the London Police will be flying the Pride flag for the first time. Although seemingly a small gesture, it truly shows their dedication and commitment to serving and protecting London's LGBT communities."
— Andrew Rosser, President of Pride London Festival
The flag rising will take place at 10 am at 601 Dundas Street, and has been coordinated by Diversity Officer Theresa Allot who saw this opportunity to create a visible sign of the London Police Service's support for the LGBTQ+ community.
