Nokee Kwe
+Positive Voice
Positive Voice is a new and exciting project that will be piloted in London, Ontario this coming September. The program, coordinated by Summer Thorp and Nokee Kwe, has received funding from the Ontario Trillium Foundation to support urban Aboriginal women over the age of eighteen who are in transition to education or employment, in developing positive life narratives and positive community connection.
Over the course of the seven week program, participants will be empowered to use a medley of media and technologies to share their stories. Thorp will lead sessions on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 2:30pm with support from community experts and Aboriginal artists. Each week will focus on a different medium as a tool for storytelling with the full list of topics available online on Nokee Kwe's website under 'Positive Voice'. At the end of the program the participant narratives will be shared with the community through social media and local public displays.
The program aims to provide a safe space for the mentorship and empowerment of urban Aboriginal women in our community. We believe in the importance of sharing positive narratives to widen the perception of the capacity of these women.
We are accepting referrals for Session One until August 19, the referral form can be found online on Nokee Kwe's website under +Positive Voice or at http://nokeekew.ca/positive-voice/#form. It is not necessary to be a client of Nokee Kwe to participate.
