Influenza Outbreak Declared Over

In consultation with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU), the influenza outbreak on CGMH’s medical unit is declared over.

At this time, the enteric (norovirus) outbreak on CGMH’s medical unit continues.

Norovirus is a highly contagious virus that causes gastroenteritis, leading to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.

To safeguard patients and staff, visitor restrictions are in effect for the Medical unit. Visitors are only permitted in cases involving palliative or end-of-life patients, for essential caregivers, or with prior approval from the Department Manager or Resource Nurse.

For essential caregivers and visitors on non-outbreak units, masking is mandatory in all patient rooms. Guests are also asked not to eat or drink in patient rooms; however the hospital’s cafeteria remains open for your convenience.

We kindly remind visitors feeling unwell to delay their visit until they have fully recovered. Additionally, we encourage everyone to practice thorough hand hygiene by using the sanitizing stations located throughout the hospital.

CGMH greatly appreciates the community's cooperation and understanding as we continue to implement these precautionary measures to safeguard the health of our patients, staff, and visitors.
