Call for donations to the London Cares Curb Hunger campaign

As the end of the London Cares Curb Hunger food campaign approaches, the City of London and London Food Bank are asking Londoners to donate and support the campaign in any way they can.

The London Cares Curb Hunger campaign reports that the financial donations are currently down compared to last year – but there is plenty of time to change that.

“It would be difficult to feed 6,000 families each month, with the summer season coming and donations traditionally decline somewhat,” says Glen Pearson, Co-Executive Director, London Food Bank. “Thanks to the Curb Hunger Food Drive, the London Food Bank will have the supplies required to help those families and the 40 other agencies we supply. This weekend is huge and we thank all those Londoners who will donate this weekend and make such a difference.”

“If you are able to, now is the time to make donations and show your support to the London Cares Curb Hunger food campaign,” says Jay Stanford, Director, Climate Change, Environment and Waste Management, City of London. “These donations will support Londoners throughout the summer months, which is typically a slower time period for donations at the food bank.”

Close to 10% of Londoners are helped through the London Food Bank at some point during the year. Last month, the London Food Bank supported 5,740 families, or 16,300 individuals.

Londoners have until Sunday, June 8 to contribute to the food drive.

How to participate:
  • Drop off non-perishable food donations at grocery stores or Fire Halls
  • Financial donations made directly to the London Food Bank
  • Drop off fresh and non-perishable items directly at the London Food Bank
  • Plant a Row, Grow a Row: Sign up to Grow-a-Row for the Food Bank in their backyard or community gardens
  • Adopt a Plot: Sign up to adopt a garden bed at the London Food Bank to grow vegetables for client hampers
