Thames Valley Family Health Team
Free Cancer Screening Clinics Popping Up in St Thomas
Thames Valley Family Health Team (TVFHT) is hosting free cancer screening pop-up clinics in St Thomas for Elgin County residents. This initiative is a key component key component of Interdisciplinary Primary Care Team expansion efforts in Elgin County and is designed to provide vital cancer screening services to women, men 50+, trans masculine individuals, and non-binary people.
These screenings are available to all residents of Elgin County whether they have a family doctor or nurse practitioner or not.
The clinics will each offer the following services:
- Pap Tests (Cervical Cancer Screening): Onsite testing
- FIT Tests (Colorectal Cancer Screening): Information and requisitions
- Mammograms (Breast Cancer Screening): Information and requisitions
“These clinics will be an inclusive, calm, and friendly environment to receive testing or information about being tested,” says Owen Fletcher, one of the Registered Nurses that will perform screenings at this clinic. “Being able to screen patients who don’t have a primary care provider means we can catch things that much sooner.”
The first clinic will be on November 18, followed by one on December 17. Ongoing clinics will be scheduled in 2026. Each clinic will be at 230 First Ave., Suite 109, St Thomas, home of the Elgin Community Health Hub. Translation services are available through VOYCE.
Booking is available over the phone by calling 519-473-0530 ext 2258.
“In running these clinics last year, we’ve been able to see the wide-reaching impact they have had,” says Jill Strong, Executive Director - People and Performance. “Preventative care is a critical part ofan individual's overall health. Given that 10,000 community members in Elgin don't have consistent access to primary care, preventative care needs for these individuals are often unmet and we want to change that.”
TVFHT would like to thank the Elgin Ontario Health Team for helping us run these clinics.
Community members can learn more about the clinics, and cancer screening eligibility, on our website.
