Grey Bruce Health Unit
Family Day of PLAY
Celebrate Ontario’s mid-winter holiday by taking part in the Family Day of PLAY community challenge. Families are encouraged to participate by being physically active on February 17 and log their activity hours at www.playbrucegrey.com. All activities count, inside or outside – try skiing, snowshoeing, skating, sledding or simply take the dog for a walk.
This event is organized by the PLAY in Bruce Grey physical activity collaborative, a partnership of the 17 municipalities, two counties and the Grey Bruce Health Unit. Trophies will be awarded to the municipalities who log the most number of PLAY hours based on percentage of population. Top participating municipalities in the 2013 challenge include West Grey, Arran-Elderslie and Brockton.
“Family Day is a opportunity for families to be active together. It’s a great time of year to explore the outdoors and the heavy snowfall should make possible a variety of winter activities” said Jason Weppler, Health Promoter at the Grey Bruce Health Unit. “We want to encourage Grey Bruce residents to include a little more activity into their day.”
PLAY trophies will be presented to the top three most active municipalities. Participants will have until 4:30 p.m., February 18 to log their PLAY hours by going on-line, contacting their local recreation department or the Grey Bruce Health Unit. Visit www.playbrucegrey.com for more information and to log your play hours. PLAY in Bruce Grey encourages you to get active by “PLAY’ing your way, every day!”
