Funding Available for Local Non-Profits: United Way Development & Demonstration Grant Applications Open November 25, 2014

Beginning Tuesday, November 25, 2014 United Way Perth-Huron will be accepting funding applications that address new, emergent, or critical issues within our community.

The purpose of these grants will be to assist with one year of funding for the start-up or expansion of projects that fosters partnerships between organizations and individuals or improves organizational structure to build capacity within the charitable sector.  To apply there must be a demonstrated need for the program or service, there must be a capacity to respond collaboratively to the need and they must operate within Perth and Huron counties.

Last year UWPH funded the YMCA in Goderich to work with partners to initiate a Huron County Youth Recreation and Sports subsidy program.  This pilot project aims to improve the mental health and well-being of low income families by providing recreation, culture and leisure opportunities to children and youth.  The second grant funded last year was F.U.E.L. Plus — Females Using Energy for Life Secondary School Program being offered by the Perth District Health Unit.  This weekly program works to improve self-esteem and mental heal by empowering them to be more physically active.

Other successful past Development & Demonstration grant recipients include; the Foundation for Enriching Education and Kids First Huron Perth Steering Committee’s Shared Intake Project, the John Howard Society of London & Districts’ Institutional Visiting and Reintegration Support Program at the Stratford jail and the Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre’s Neighbours Helping Neighbours Program.

An orientation and training session for interested grant applicants will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 from 1 – 3 pm at the United Centre (32 Erie Street, Stratford).  Please contact Tracy Birtch at 519-271-7730 ext 228 or via email at srpc@perthhuron.unitedway.ca to rsvp for the training session.
