Perth and Huron – one of the best places to live - but problems still remain: A community discussion tackles the next steps in light of the recent Quality of Life Report

The Social Research and Planning Council, a division of United Way of Perth – Huron recently released a study on the Quality of Life - which refers to the general wellbeing of individuals and society in terms of health and happiness - in Perth and Huron County. The research found that residents live in one of the best places in the world, but problems still remain. The community event that includes breakfast, will lead a discussion about what the next steps might be.

Ryan Erb, Executive Director is pleased with the registration for the event so far, “A great cross section of the community, including social service leaders, municipal staff and politicians have indicated an interest by registering for this event”. Erb further commented, “The Social Research and Planning Council has quietly become one of the most important drivers of social change in this community. By providing evidence for social action and then instigating, or even leading that action, SRPC and the United Way are bringing change where it is needed most.”

Topics at the discussion will include lower educational attainment rates, high out migration rates of young adults, a lower average annual earning for full-time workers in the region (compared to provincial average) and an environment that falls below provincial guidelines.

The Social Research and Planning Council is comprised of community representatives who are dedicated to the collection, analysis and distribution of information relating to social trends and issues in Perth and Huron County. The council hopes that with this information, social and human service agencies and funders can make informed decisions regarding courses of action and implementation resources.
