Elgin St Thomas Public Health
Elgin St.Thomas Public Health is a proud member of the community
Elgin St.Thomas Public Health (ESTPH) showed their support during the 21st Annual Pride Parade in London, Ontario with an 80’s flashback inspired float.
Thirteen staff and youth leaders from Elgin St.Thomas Public Health braved the heat of Sunday afternoon to walk in solidarity by celebrating, promoting unity and inclusion while raising awareness of sexual and gender diversity.
Jessica Austin, Health Promoter with Elgin St.Thomas Public Health, coordinated the float with the support of local youth. Jessica comments, “With thousands of people in attendance and over 100 floats in the parade it was an amazingly energized day! We received a lot of shout outs to St.Thomas from the crowds with us being one of the only float that was specifically identified as an agency from Elgin St.Thomas. Talk about St.Thomas proud! It was truly moving as you witnessed family and friends of all generations celebrating together”
Youth Leader, Bethany Mink, shares her thoughts on the experience having participated three years in a row now, “It’s so wonderful to not only be a part of such a supportive group, but to be able to show support for such a wonderful community! Being able to take part in the pride parade should be on everyone’s bucket list!”
Throughout the parade route the sharing of prevention messages was provided to the crowds from the distracted driving campaign - Just Drive; Living a Smoke Free life with the 91reasons Instagram based campaign; and ways to access Elgin St.Thomas sexual health testing and resources for safe sex practices.
