Ministry of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure
Statement from Brad Duguid on the Initial Report by the Partnership Council on Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities

Today Brad Duguid, Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure, released the following statement on the Initial Report by the Partnership Council on Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities:

"I would like to thank the Partnership Council on Employment Opportunities for People with Disabilities for their initial report on creating more opportunities for people with disabilities in the workplace.

People with disabilities have the knowledge and skills to get the job done. They also have the insight and awareness to connect with a growing marketplace for accessible technologies and services.

Businesses that hire people with disabilities can strengthen their talent base, increase their potential for innovation, and enhance their ability to serve new markets. That's how inclusive employment can help build an innovative, next generation economy for Ontario.

Our government is committed to building an accessible province filled with opportunity for people of all abilities. Ontario's newly released Accessibility Action Plan outlines some of the steps we are taking to promote the hiring of people with disabilities for the benefit of our communities -- and our economy.

The Partnership Council's Initial Report will help us go further to increase employment opportunities for people with disabilities.

We are pleased to receive the Council's recommendations and are already moving forward on many of them. We look forward to working with the Partnership Council, people with disabilities, businesses and our stakeholders on more ways to make employment inclusive across Ontario.

In the meantime, I invite businesses of all sizes to work with us to champion the hiring of people with disabilities. Together, we'll create a culture of inclusion in our workplaces and a next generation economy for our province."
