Supplies4Students

A community working together to assist families in Oxford County needing back to school supplies.

Background

Historically, workplaces and community members in Oxford have generously supported students by collecting backpacks and school supplies. These were then distributed to local not-for-profits who matched them with those identified a need for support. While this support has been greatly appreciated, we want to give students the experience of having choice in order to gain what they need most; confidence, belonging, hope and success.

Supplies4Students - What's New?

This year, we are making a strategic shift of our program to better prepare and help those in need of support. Through the collaboration of 11 local organizations throughout Oxford County, families with ongoing or sudden financial challenges will be able to receive support and purchase school supplies with their child(ren) in grades JK to 12 for the new school year.

Making the shift from the donation of physical supplies to monetary support, we have a greater opportunity to provide emotional tools, like confidence, independence and dignity. Choosing and shopping for school supplies allows families to work within a budget and have the opportunity to receive guidance for efficient spending. The ability to build their own backpack will enable students to gain valuable skills whilst building emotional confidence. Incredible things happen when you bring people together. Through the collaborative efforts of many organizations we will reach even more students who need this support.
