London, ON. – After a heart attack, it’s easy to get
lost while “traveling the cardiac road.” That is why
the Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry has
teamed up with London Health Sciences Centre
and the Heart and Stroke Foundation to organize
an evening with experts.
Panel members will explain the latest approaches
and scientific evidence spanning the complete
range of cardiac care, to help patients map out
their recovery process from diagnosis to
rehabilitation. Topics include: navigating the wait-
list, mapping the arterial routes, communicating
on the highway and beyond recovery to
prevention.
Dr. Neville Suskin, Medical Director, Cardiac
Rehabilitation & Secondary Prevention Program
says, “This is an evening where leading scientists
can present the latest scientific literature in
everyday language on a broad array of cardiac
issues, while at the same time allowing for
interaction with the audience.”
“Heart disease and stroke are the leading
cause of death in southwestern Ontario,” says
Cheryl Curtis of the Heart and Stroke Foundation
of Ontario. “Every day this year, 12 London area
residents will be hospitalized because of heart
disease. As a result, it is vital that we work with our
community partners as we are clearly responding
to a need that will help educate our local
population.”
“Traveling the Cardiac Road” will be held
Wednesday, April 26 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the
Best Western Lamplighter Inn, 591 Wellington
Road, London. Pre-registration is required, and
the cost is $10 per person or $15 per family. Pick
up a pamphlet and registration form at the
London Heart and Stroke Foundation office, 617
Wellington St. or at the downtown London YMCA.
