Service Description: Provides a clinical setting for patients requiring long-term mechanical ventilation (LTV). >
  • 6 beds used for the residential care of “medically stable” ventilator dependent individuals.
  • Helps increase the capacity of critical care areas across the region.
  • The facility is not mandated, staffed or resourced to facilitate protocols for attempting weaning from mechanical ventilation.
Fees: Services covered by OHIP * co-payment fee required
Application: Medical referral required * applications from facilities outside of London must include the Parkwood admission application, a medical summary of the potential admission by the home facility, and a written repatriation agreement between the home facility and the London Health Sciences Centre's Critical Care Program indicating an agreement by the home facilty to accept the patient back immediately if deemed unsuitable for the Parkwood environment
Eligibility - Population(s) Served: Medically stable, ventilator dependent patients * must be alert and able/willing to cooperate with a care plan, and able to access the call bell system and direct own care * treatment plan for all medical conditions is in place * respiratory stability has been established * comprehensive care plan has been developed
