Stratford Public Library's Economic Impact

Each and every day Stratford Public Library (SPL) is making a difference in people’s lives. Library usage is consistently high – and delivers real value to the community. However, it is harder to obtain metrics outside of usage counts that show a tangible and quantifiable impact.

In December 2013, the Toronto Public Library released So Much More: The Economic Impact of the Toronto Public Library on the City of Toronto, which concluded that Toronto Public Library provided a return on investment of $5.63 for every $1 invested. This report was written by The Martin Prosperity Institute (Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto). It was the first study of its kind in Canada.

In the spring of 2014, the Martin Prosperity Institute graciously provided the library community with access to this formula.

The results of the Stratford Public Library’s calculations for 2013 will be presented to Stratford City Council at 7pm on Monday, January 26th. Kimberly Silk, the Data Librarian from The Martin Prosperity Institute who designed the formula, will be presenting.

A presentation to the public will occur on the same day at 5pm in the Library Auditorium. All are welcome. Join us to hear how Stratford residents are receiving outstanding value for their investment!
